Many moons ago, a united galore of diversified animals washed up on the shore of the tranquil province of Indra, an island deserted in the center of the Atlantic Ocean. There was no antagonism or antipathy amongst the convivial creatures of the group. They lived in harmony and advocated for companionship, perceiving it as their sole method of survival. They hunted on the shore of the waterfront, constituting fish and the occasional straggling creature as their diet. They recognized no purpose to traverse the island, seeing as everything they desired was inexhaustibly within their reach. One day, however, inquisitivity overcame the minds of particular members of the group. They yearned to comprehend what lay off the shore and deep within the jungle, curious as to why their comrades had not yet explored the entirety of the island. Surely, there was more to see? To feed their curiosity and search for answers, a gathering of members left camp and ventured past the sandline, further into the island. After only hours of exploration, the voyagers came across new territory. A space dissipated with natural resources, covered with lavish trees and illuminated by the blazing rays of the sun that rested above. When the group returned from the expedition, they described the scenery they had encountered. Many members of the group were eager to learn more about the territory, while others thought it was uncivil to delve into such an unknown space. A dispute broke out among the group, resulting in disunion. Those who took the opportunity to occupy the land departed to one side of the island and named themselves the Abenaki (the forest dwellers), while those who believed the jungle could be perilous remained on the beach and named themselves the Camazotz (the sea dwellers). After the dispute, a massive storm swept over the island, collapsing trees and flooding the beaches. When the storm passed, a colossal shadowy figure emerged from within the clouds. The opposing sides gathered together on the beach to discuss the petrifying creature that overlooked them. They called it a beast - a beast that stalked the tribes patiently in wait to eliminate them from the island while they were at their most vulnerable. Despite the differences between the two tribes, they shared one thing in common: the fear of the beast. The tribes had noticed a recurring pattern overtime: the beast only appeared when conflict arose between the two tribes, so they came to the agreement that they would remain as one union, however, they concluded that they should remain under peaceful partition and remain on their sides of the island.

Cama1
CAMAZOTZ
ABOUT

The Camazotz believe that it is unsafe to wander obliviously. They assume that it is much safer to remain in one place in order to protect and look out for one another. Unlike the Abenaki, they perceive taking risks as dangerous rather than adventurous. The Camazotz put a lot of emphasis on unity, as it is one of their most practiced morals. Camazotz tribe members try to avoid anything that could put them in danger and refuse to trek the vast jungle in order to keep themselves safe. Their love for the ocean and skillful ability to navigate the tide gives them plenty of fulfillment, ensuring that the community they built stays in tact.

TRAITS

Psychological Attributes

The Camazotz live under a neutral orientation, however, they are not afraid to defend themselves and each other at any cost. The Camazotz have positive morals which include the practices of gratitude, honesty, integrity, and sincerity. Camazotz tribe members can be portrayed as humane, resourceful, generous, brave, trustworthy, loyal, and altruistic.

Physical Attributes

Face and Body Paint

All members of the Camazotz tribe wear face and/or body paint crafted by the Shamans. Face and body paint represent the Camazotz members' identification and self expression. Members are free to choose their own patterns and can either have face paint, body paint, or both. The colors of the paint are extracted pigmentation and natural colors from various resources on the beach. This includes pigmentation from fruit, plants, coal, mud, shells, and blood. Camazotz paint can vary in color depending on where the paint was derived from.

Piercings

The Camazotz tribe members express themselves through body modification - specifically piercings through their ears. This procedure can be performed by the Shamans by using their teeth, the spikes of sea urchins, or splinters derived from the bark of the tropical trees on the sand bank. Piercing "jewelry" can consist of shells, wood, and other junk found on the island that would fit into the anatomy of the member's piercing.

CUSTOMS

The Final Send-off

The Camazotz tribe perform a burial ritual for passing comrades. The tribe will put their comrade on a raft built by the Shamans wrapped in seaweed from head to toe, cover them in precious plants and seashells, then push them into the vast sea towards their eternal freedom.

Do Not Go Past The Reef

Camazotz tribe members are warned to not swim past the reef for the current is too strong to swim through. Once you are swept under the water, nobody will be able to save you. Swim at your own risk.

Mealtime

Every night, the Camazotz tribe gathers around the burning fire to share their meal with one another. It helps maintain unity and intimate friendships within the group, as well as keeping the supply of food at a stable quantity.

Trading with the Abenaki Tribe

Under no circumstance is a Camazotz tribe member permitted to enter the jungle. Trading with the Abenaki tribe must occur either at trading posts or gatherings.

ABENAKI
ABOUT

The Abenaki believe that they should contain absolute freedom physically and psychologically. They believe that in order to achieve this freedom they must take risks and allow their curiosity and free spirit to guide them on their self-journey of exploration and discovery. To them, there is much more to life than remaining under strict regulation to act and live under specific circumstances. They assume that their purpose is to grow as individuals and see to it that their sense of solidarity within the tribe remains unabridged.

TRAITS

Psychological Attributes

Although they are considered to live under a neutral orientation, the personalities of the Abenaki tribe members can be portrayed as mysterious, savage, and wild. Abenaki tribe members are courageous, daring, curious, and open-minded to new discoveries and experimentation. Abenaki members value individuality rather than unity and see life in an "every man for himself" type of way - however, they remain loyal to their tribe and trust only their fellow comrades.

Physical Attributes

Face and Body Paint

All members of the Abenaki tribe wear face and/or body paint crafted by the Shamans. The colors of the paint are extracted pigmentation and natural colors from various resources in the jungle. This includes pigmentation from fruit, plants, coal, mud, dirt, and blood. Abenaki paint can vary in color depending on where the paint was derived from.

Piercings

This procedure can be performed by the Shamans by using their teeth, the splinters from the bone of their prey, or wood derived from the bark of the tropical trees in the jungle. The Skinning

When a member passes away, the tribe will hunt down a straggling animal and place its skull on their dying comrade. CURRENCY

FRUIT

The Abenaki and Camazotz tribes reside on the terrain where the plantation offers generous multitudes of fruit, those of which grow either on the tall trees of the jungle or vegetation surrounding their camps. Species of fruit are dependent on their location on the island, however, the more desired fruit falls upon the beachfront in Camazotz territory.

Fruit can be eaten or traded for another token of currency.

MEAT

The Abenaki tribe lives deeper within the jungle where the undergrowth offers nothing more than vast arrays of plain vegetation. However, the majority of scavengers on the island lurk near the Abenaki territory, allowing the Abenaki tribe to hunt these creatures for meat while the Camazotz territory is scarce in prey.

Meat can be eaten or traded for another token of currency.

SHELLS

Seashells are known to be the most valuable token on the island. They are usually found on the shore of the beach or the jungle's border, however, it is very hard to find them for they only wash up occasionally.

Seashells can be traded for another token of currency or mended into necklaces.

NECKLACES

Necklaces are crafted from seashells found on the shore of the beach or scattered within the jungle and are mended by the Shaman of the tribes. The amount of shells one wears on their necklace represents their social status in the tribe, thus allowing them to gain a sense of popularity and high respect from their fellow tribe members.

Necklaces cannot be traded for another token of currency, and, they can only be created and awarded by the Shamans.

CURRENCY TRADE SYSTEM

Keep in mind how each token can be traded for they can be difficult for both tribes to acquire. Trade wisely. Trades can take place within/outside your own tribe, but only at trading posts or at gatherings.
