I was just thinking of this lately, and decided, hey, why not talk with some fellow wikians about it?
Anyway, I remember probably back in like late 2019-early 2020, Duskaa had first became bureaucrat, and there was a lot of talk going around about adding a category for WildWork’s recent game, fer.al, for roleplay groups. At the time the idea was lightly rejected because the game hadn’t been out yet, but, although still in beta, the game is open to the public now. What do you guys think of the idea of groups ran on it? Personally, as a player of the game, I’m not too sure what to think.
Pros would probably include…
-A very free chat filter that only really limits bullying, hate speech, and only the most vulgar of swear words.
-Very customizable avatars, with the free starter avatars they give you being basically a cat and one that can easily look like a wolf/dog, which are the main species used on this wiki.
-It can be used on a computer/laptop AND on mobile.
-A pretty vast environment in what’s known as the expanse to roleplay in.
-Though there is purchasable currency, there is no membership system whatsoever, and no item is locked to anyone.
Cons would probably include…
-Sanctuaries (basically equivalent of AJ dens) are small. Though they’re definitely customizable with lots of items and the ability to build different rooms, the outdoor part is small and I probably wouldn’t call it ideal for a roleplay camp.
-Due to still technically being in beta, there are still some bugs in it, though it’s definitely much better than what I remember AJ Classic lag being like.
-If it got popular, it’d probably bring back the whole “Double-Clanning” and “Main or Side Groups” controversy due to you only being able to be in one place at once on it.
-There isn’t separate servers on it like there is in AJ Classic, which is sort of a blessing and a curse. Since there’s only one server, you won’t get Clans/Packs arguing over servers. But, this also makes it so anyone could just walk in on your roleplay.
-Though it’d be a definite upgrade of AJ, it still wouldn’t be as convenient as discord.
-This is more a problem with the game as a whole and not it’s usefulness as a roleplay platform, but, it has a pretty poor follower system. Instead of buddies like AJ, there’s people who follow you and people you follow. Except, while you can limit who can go to your Sanctuary or location, you can’t debate who follows you. Plus, when you block someone, instead of preventing them from being visible to you entirely, it just puts, “Someone you blocked said this message”, which annoys a lot of people.
Personally, though I would probably eventually consider it, I wouldn’t use it for awhile considering I’m barely even getting back into discord roleplay. What do you guys think?
